W hen Sheriff Clark received the call from Deputy Elias Ansel he was sat in his cruiser already deeply engrossed in the research supplied to him by David Edwards at the Summerside Gazette.

Judge Atwell, it seemed, had been a bad man.

None of the paperwork stated sources other than a single alias named Waldo, who supplied the Gazette with enough evidence to permanently ruin the Judge’s career and, if proven, eventually send him to prison.

While there were scandalous reports of him frequenting establishments for the purposes of soliciting sex, all outside Summerside Hills of course, it was the apparent embezzlement of government funding that could lead to a criminal conviction.

Doug had no idea who this Waldo was or how he came about this information, but it was clear they had a grudge against Atwell, one big enough to drive him to ruin the man for good.

“Sheriff, it’s Ansel, you there?”

Doug sighed and grabbed the radio.

“Clark here,” he said.

“You’d best get down to Camp Summerside chief,” said Elias. “One of our escaped patients just made an appearance.”

“Molyneux?”

“Annette Maxwell. I’m heading there now.”

“I’m half an hour away,” the Sheriff said, throwing the file with the rest of them on the passenger seat, turning on the ignition and driving away from the Summerside Gazette.
